Prometheus II is an oscillator module that produces a wide variety of binary waveforms with some pseudorandom behavior using a simple digital feedback circuit.

The module uses a microcontroller to select a feedback configuration of a 12-bit linear feedback shift register (LFSR) such that the circuit can produce a binary sequence of desired length from 1 to 4095. Feedback configurations can be further refined according the probability of producing the desired sequence length (chance) and number of possible sequences of the desired length (diversity). CV controls are provided for sequence length and chance.

The LFSR can be clocked by an external clock or driven by an internal clock according to the pitch configured by v/oct input and various tuning knobs. Using a toggle switch, the internally generated clock my be configured to run at the selected pitch (so that changes in sequence length produce a subharmonic series of pitches) or to loop the selected sequence length at the desired pitch (so that the pitch does not change with sequence length).

An external trigger and internal LFO can be used to briefly change the sequence length to 4095, randomizing the contents of the shift register. This produces a brief click and may cause the LFSR to produce a different sequence when it returns to its selected configuration.

A second LFSR with the same configuration as the main LFSR can be clocked at a different rate to produce simple intervals or may be disabled to produce a single tone. A simple sequencing function is provides to freeze and cycle through saved states of a subset of configuration knobs.

The output may be DC-coupled to act as a logic signal or AC-coupled with variable cutoff frequency.
